About the ship
PLAN Type 636/636A distant-ocean survey ships, have the same role as the U.S. Navy’s Pathfinder class hydrographic survey ships. These ships perform bathymetric surveys and collect oceanographic and meteorological data, which serve as inputs for the production of charts and the development and improvement of forecasting systems. The Zhukezhen is the first ship of type 636A. It was built in Wuhu ship yard in 2005, and finished in 2008. It is in service now.
