Ladies and Gentlemen! For your attention is really amazing unit from the distant past - a cool and extremely rare Fairchild 602 Stereo Tube Compressor made during one of the peak periods for vacuum tube equipment, SN 5! Apparently this model also has same input transformers that are in the legendary 660 / 670. S/N 5!
The Fairchild 602 compressor
, also known as the "Conax" tube compressor was designed as a High Frequency only compressor that controls the dynamics with a vacuum tubes, and can handle 2 channels of stereo. The applications that it was used on was: insterted prior to a radio station's transmitting tower to prevent "Over Modulation" on the transmitter. Another application was as a High Frequency limiter in a mastering chain before the cutter head to prevent transient peaks on a record. There are only two controls on the front panel: A Threshold control (to select the frequency point that you want the compressor to start acting) 1-5 are the settings.  Made a small mod - added 2 extra treshold settings on the compression handle for more compression. (tip: try to setting #2 for adding healthy fats to your mix). As you deepen the threshold, the attack and release will change.

In fact, Fairchild 602 compress/limits the information in the mix above 500 Hz and has the ability to collect low frequencies and make them elastic without distorting, as well as enrich any audio source with euphonious harmonics. By limiting the peaks, he makes the mix denser.
