Description

This is an unassembled kit.   If you missed the chance at audio kit building in the 80s, this is your chance to experience a time warp. Note that when completed,it is not a simple slider with fixed center frequency and Q.
The P-94-SR is a line level, analog signal processor designed to provide frequency shaping in two ranges that cover the audio spectrum. The analog signal processing is comprised of  band pass electronic filters of a specific type known as parametric. Three filter properties are involved in each band: center frequency, filter Q, and gain. The first section covers center frequencies from 40 Hz to 1000 Hz. The second band covers, center frequencies from 560 Hz to 15 KHz.  The filter bandwidth at half power points varies from .15 octave to 2 octaves.  For example, at a center frequency of  200 Hz, and two-octave band width, the Q is 1/2. This is a often known as critical dampening since the impulse response decays without ringing, does not overshoot its steady state output, and approaches said steady-state output in the shortest time.  Contrariwise, at the same center frequency, 200 Hz, a one-quarter octave band-width yields a Q of 4. This is under-dampened  where the output of a step response decays slowly ,attune to  ringing, and is sustained longer. The  under-dampened condition is improved if a bandwidth of one-octave is selected: then  Q=1.  Output to a step response is  still under-dampened, but approaches critical dampening after one or two cycles.
The point of this ability to control the filter response is  greater artistic and technical quality.  The artistic factors can result in a signature sound that suit many audio production qualities not amenable to simple sliders than control only the gain and that a small number of fixed frequencies. Sliders are often only half-octave, for 20 controls of fixed Q.Technical control is best illustrated when dealing with room resonances, many of which are in the first band of this processor.  These resonances are often very narrow in the frequency domain and outside of range of sliders.
The front panel controls are center-frequency (
40-1000 Hz,and 560 Hz to 16KHz),
bandwith/Q ( 0.15 octave to 2 octaves), and gain (noninverting at a maximum of 8 VAC)  for each of two channels . This product will be double boxed and insured. The last photo is an assembled version for sale in another listing.
